“Hurry up, or we’re gonna be late!”
Holding the doors of the trolley car open, wearing the standard No-Star Goku Uniform, which consists of the usual sailor style outfit in blue and white, Honnouji Academy student Ryuko Matoi waits for her friend. Ryuko looks up at the hill, leading up to the school; she can see another trolly train off in the distance, “If we were just a few minutes sooner, we would have been fine.” She looks back down the street that leads to the trolley and can see her friend.
“Hang on!”
Speeding down the street, with her bob cut hairstyle perfectly intact, Mako Mankanshoku runs for the trolley car. Getting closer and closer, Mako picks up the pace. However, in the middle of her attempt at making it to class on time, her foot ends up hitting against a rock, tripping her and sending her into a tumbling roll across the ground like a ball.
“Mako!”
Seeing her rolling friend approaching fast, Ryuko takes a side step to avoid the getting hit; as soon as she moved, the trolley doors began to close. Narrowly slipping through the doors, Mako rolls her way into the trolley, crashing into the wall face first. Running to her side, Ryuko leans down and starts shaking Mako.
“Mako, Mako! You alright?”
Motionless, Mako sits there with her face right in the wall. Ryuko moves a bit closer; she can hear snoring coming from the wall. The trolley begins moving up the hill, making the entire care shake. Mako falls back and lays down; the impact knocked her out, making her fall asleep. Ryuko shakes her head and chuckles. She gets back on her feet and stands at the front of the trolley car, looking out at the town as it passes by.
“It’s weird. All of the fibers are gone and everybody at the school isn’t trying to come after us. It’s weird feeling so much peace after going through what we did, right Senketsu?
There’s no reply. After a few moments, Ryuko tugs on the collar of her uniform shirt.
“Senketsu? You asleep, too?”
Ryuko looks down at her uniform and takes a deep breath; she sees the blue collar and matching ribbon and skirt. She clenches her collar for a moment, before letting it go.
“No wonder you didn’t reply… You’re not here.”
Changing her gaze from her uniform, up to the clear blue sky, Ryuko watches a small flock of birds fly by, letting her mind race back to memories of the past. After a rush of emotions and feelings, a faint smile reaches across Ryuko’s face.
