Ryuko finishes taking a bite of her lunch and nods, “Yeah. I don’t know if she has an inhumanly high metabolism or if her stomach is a black hole, but she normally eats a lot.”
“Perhaps she secretly has life fibers in her that increases her required daily calorie intake.”
Ryuko looks at Satsuki with a confused look, “Was that suppose to be a joke?”
Satsuki simply shrugs, “It was worth a try.”
Mako notices their conversation and joins in, “I wouldn’t be surprised if I had life fibers, too. I don’t know how many times I should have died and I walked away with just a few scratches.”
With the memories of dangerous battles, all kinds of explosions and destruction of the school multiple times, all three of them can agree that Mako is lucky to be alive. With that out of the way, Satsuki sits back against the bench and crosses her legs, her eyes darting back and forth at the student in the courtyard.
“Honnouji…”
Ryuko looks at Satsuki, overhearing her speak, “What about it?”
“I never noticed how… calm and ordinary the school could be when everything is at peace. Aside from the fact that it was rebuilt, this looks like an entirely new school.”
“You mean you never noticed all of this from that high horse of yours at the top of the school?”
“Sad to admit, but I never really spent that much time among the entire school like this. However, now knowing everything that happened, I’m sure you understand my reasoning behind it.”
“To keep up the act until it was time to stand up to Ragyo?”
Satsuki only answers with a nod. Watching the students seem to have put her in a calm trance; she takes a deep breath and focuses on them. Ryuko keeps her eyes on Satsuki for a moment, then finishes eating her lunch.
The school bell starts ringing, signaling the end of the lunch period. All of the students start making their way back to the school building to their classes. Mako gets up from her seat to pat herself off and talks to Ryuko.
“Come on! I don’t wanna be late.”
“I’ll be right behind you.”
Ryuko closes up her lunch container and gets up from her seat. The school bell snaps Satsuki out of her trance and she catches Ryuko before she starts walking away, “Stay behind for a moment, Matoi.”
Ryuko and Mako both look at Satsuki; Satsuki focuses on Mako for a second, “You can go on ahead. She’ll join you in class in a bit.”
