100 Word Story – Working Cog (Part One)

Nobody likes having to constantly report to their superiors or feeling like another cog in a massive machine. What kind of person wants to only work themselves to death for somebody or something that barely acknowledges their existence?

Fredrick first started out with the warm, bubbly naiveness of an intern looking for their break into the industry. Once it was all over, he slowly started to lose his soul.

Perhaps he started to lose his mind as well…?

The office was buzzing with the constant ringing of cubical phone calls, fingers dancing across keyboards, and chatter between workers and customers. Somebody shouted across the main office area, somebody yelled back with their response.

Fredrick’s chair tilted to the side when he tried to roll his seat a bit closer to his desk. His large body went tumbling over and crashed into the aisle of his section; nobody got up and looked to see if he was okay.

Letting out a disappointed sigh, he got back up and continued working.

“How long as it been since I started here…?”
