100 Word Story – Working Cog (Part Five)

Fredrick first started out with the warm, bubbly naiveness of an intern looking for their break into the industry. Once it was all over, he slowly started to lose his soul.

A door slammed followed by the cries of a man in agony. Everybody in the office came to a halt regardless of what they were doing. Heads turned to face where the sudden cries were coming from. People began hesitantly walking towards the source.

A woman approached the closed door. A red-stained privacy glass panel prevented her from looking inside. When she grabbed the handle, the cries came to a stop, leaving behind a strange wet sound of a child playing with slime.

She called out to the boss, but never got a response. Excusing herself, she opened the door.
