100 Word Story – The No-Life Ward (Part Two)

The balance of life and death is simply never an easy thing that one would like to experience. Doctors constantly on call in order to help a patient who is clinging to life, trying to cure any kind of ailment they may have or prevent future ones. They’re seen as heroes in the eyes of friends, families, and those who are always watching their efforts to keep people alive. But what if there are heroes in death?

People who would happily carry the burden of knowing they took a life, ones who see death as a reward for being nasty in life. Just like people try to find excitement in their time alive, there are those who thrive in seeing somebody die in front of them. It’s all the same, isn’t it?

Life is death, and seeing death brings life to some.


We stopped in front of Room 720. There was a small folder hanging from the door.

Winston took the folder and handed it to me. “Read this.”

I held the folder and looked at it, “Should I really be looking at this? I mean, I don’t work here anymore, and even if I did this room wasn’t part of my route.”

“I’m not asking you to do anything except read this profile. You may like what you see.”

Winston watched me as I slowly opened the folder. My eyes scanned every word and chart among the various pages.

“No way…”
