100 Word Story – One-Sided Desire (Part One)

I couldn’t help myself from staring out of the front lawn window, awaiting for her to return. Even though the blinding sun was overhead, I just couldn’t look away from the thin glass in front. Every second she’s away from me I could feel my body burning up inside, longing to have her by my side.

My hand pressed against the window, feeling the cold sting of the wintertime weather on my palm, “I hope you don’t freeze out there. I would freeze up should you not come home.”

My eyes glanced up and down the sidewalk, waiting for her.

100 Word Story – Large Foods (Finale)

Sarah’s high heels clacked against the sidewalk with every step. I couldn’t help but sigh when I saw the total bill at the bottom of the receipt again.

“Jesus,” I groaned, “this is gonna eat a hole in my wallet.”

I felt Sarah’s nails dig a bit into my upper arm as we spoke, “… I’m sorry for getting out of hand.”

As much as I wanted to be angry at her, I had no right; I said some pretty nasty stuff too. With a heavy sigh, I kissed her forehead, “I’m sorry, too.”

“Do you mean it?”

“I do.”

100 Word Story – Large Foods (Part Four)

We didn’t look at each other for the rest of the night, eating our food in silence. Whenever the waiter came over to check on us we spoke for ourselves, never acknowledging the other. It was the same way when we ordered more food and desserts: no eye contact, no communication.

As I was eating my way through my steak, that’s when I came to the realization, “Holy shit, everything’s being charged to my card…”

After a never-ending war of silence, I looked at Sarah and said “You’ll have to chip in on the bill.”

She sucked her teeth, “Cheapskate.”

100 Word Story – Large Foods (Part Three)

There was a strange silence between the two of us after airing out some small grievances. Aside from the loud chatter from the other patrons around us, the only sound we made was the clang from silverware hitting our plates.

Wanting to reach a common ground, I began to speak while I moved a meatball around with a fork, “I think we took things a bit further this time.”

Sarah glared at me, “It only started because you said my ass was big.”

“It’s true. It’s not my fault that everything you eat goes straight there.”

“Fuck you, tiny dick!”

House Invasion

Butch kept his army knife tight in hand, holding it in a reverse grip with the blade facing out. His stance was low with his knees bent, slowly making his way across the second floor hallway. The length of the hallway was visible under the low light, all the doors on both sides within his line of sight.

“Amilia,” Butch cautiously called out, stopping his approach. He stood still, waiting to see if one of the doors would open. “Amilia, it’s me. It’s okay to come out.”

None of the doors opened, not even the shake of a door handle happened. Butch calmed his breathing, listening for any kind of movement. In the silence the raging winds from outside the house blew from underneath one of the doors, making a faint whistling sound.

Easing up just a bit, Butch stood straight up. He took a few more steps down the hall, opening doors just to make sure the house was clear. Behind the bathroom door was nothing but the usual appliances and fixtures, including the same freshly washed towels in the hamper on the floor. Opposite the bathroom was the master bedroom, the room him and Amilia shared. The room was still a mess from the struggle earlier in the day. The bedsheets were hanging off from one corner of the bed, partially damp from the pool of blood it rested in. The door to the walk-in closet was hanging from its top hinge, splintered and broken in the center. Various trinkets and items were thrown all over, the evidence of a wild brawl. Butch took a long look in the room, just to make sure nothing changed.

When he walked up to the next door, which was the guest bedroom, he knocked on the door and called out again, “Amilia, the house is clear. You can come out.”

Once again, no response. Butch reached for the doorknob and turned, but the knob wouldn’t budge, locked into place. Feeling the tension in his hand brought a small smile to his face—he saw the locked door as a good sign. Knocking on the door, Butch gave a small message as he focused on the door, “Mimi is my little bunny rabbit.”

Immediately after, he could hear footsteps shuffling across the carpeting in the room. Bolts and hinges began unlocking, the door slowly opening once the last bolt was undone. With her head popping out from the small opening, Butch saw the warm, brown eyes of his wife meet his.

Amilia’s voice was still trembling with fright as she spoke, “Is the house clear?”

Butch gave a firm nod, “All clear.”

Wasting no time, Amilia threw the door open all the way and ran straight into Butch’s chest, grabbing onto him with the tightest hug she’s ever given.

100 Word Story – Large Foods (Part Two)

The waiter brought us our food, most of what’s on the platter going over to Sarah’s half of the table. Steak, baked potatoes, macaroni and cheese, the works—all of that was just for her. All I had in front of me was just a simple plate of pasta and a side of breadsticks.

“Do you really plan on eating all that, woman?” I blatantly asked.

“Think I can’t?” she replied.

“With that big mouth, it’s possible.”

“Too bad I can’t say the same thing about your dick.”

“Wait, what?”

“It’s too small to even fit in my ‘big mouth.’”

100 Word Story – Large Foods (Part One)

“I can’t decide on what I want to eat. There’s just so many different options to choose from.”

Sarah kept looking at the menu while I was already talking to our waiter about what I wanted. “You can go ahead and put my order in. My wife will need a few more minutes.”

The waiter nodded and headed for the back of the restaurant. I looked at Sarah, her face being hidden behind the menu.

“There’s just too much,” she laughed. “It’s like it gets bigger every time we come back here.”

“Too bad your ass has the same problem.”

100 Word Story – Annual Check-up (Finale)

I stepped out of the clinic, using my hand to block the sun from getting in my eyes. The crisp air filled my lungs as I walked towards the train station, wanting to go home.

I blended into the early afternoon rush crowd, swiping my card to get through the turnstile. I saw my train approaching the platform and I weaved through everybody to grab a seat for my long ride home.

As I rocked with the motion of the train, I got an email on my phone: “Don’t forget to schedule your appointment for next year.”

“… Adulting sucks.”

Escape

The High Kind and the Empire knew that I managed to escape the hold, but they weren’t sure about just how far I away I was. I saw a large patrol unit converging on the main gates, all armed with swords and shields, ready to attack on a moments notice.

I wasn’t in the right state to fight, let alone fight an entire army. My main priority was finding a way to escape the city without drawing attention. And do that, I’d have to disguise myself among the general civilian public.

Tossed on top of a small bench was a worn, hooded cloak. It wasn’t much, but it was able to cover everything from my head to my mid-section. If I could just make it to out of the city with this on, I’ll be okay.

There were a couple times where civilians spat out slurs of anger, but I happily ignored them.

“Arcimia. We know you’re hiding in the crowd; you haven’t escaped the Empire.”

I learned about just how far the High King would go just to protect himself. And now, I was his main priority.

100 Word Story – Annual Check-up (Part Four)

I kept looking at the bandage on my upper arm, a growing warmth and itchiness taking over on the injection site. I tried my best to scratch through the soft padding of the bandage, “Damn, this sucks. Now I’m gonna be sore for the next two days.”

With the doctor gone, I picked up my bag and headed through the waiting area. As I walked down the hallway, I caught a glance of the blonde young woman again as she passed by; she was shaking, holding a paper in her hands.

Must have tested positive. Feel kinda bad for her.

Legends of the Dark – Home Improvement (Part Two)

From the quick walk-though, I was already mentally calculating all of the expenses and amount of time it would be before this house project would be complete. I could hear the floorboard squeaking beneath my boots with every step–this home improvement would be worth the wait.

When I got to the second floor, I noticed a hatch in the ceiling. Darren and I didn’t see it before, nor did the realtor mention it at all. What the hell was it doing here and what could possibly be up there?

And more importantly, who the hell was running around up there while this house was being worked on?

Part of me wondered if this was intentionally left out and hidden, possibly hiding some kind of secret.

I paused for a moment, waiting to hear something from Darren. His voice didn’t call out for a minute or so.

I called out again. No answer.

100 Word Story – Annual Check-up (Part Three)

“Everything’s normal—weight, heart rate, height, blood pressure—it’s all good.”

I gave the doctor a slight nod and smiled, “That’s good to hear.”

The doctor smiled back, looking up from her computer monitor, “Any issues you’ve been having? Any pain, symptoms of illness, soreness?”

“No, nothing.”

“That’s good.” The doctor looked at her monitor again, reading off my medical records. “Looks like you’re due for a flu shot. Want to get one now?”

My heart beat instantly soared at hearing about that, the horrors of needles burned in my memories. However, my mouth spoke lies, “Sure, let’s do it.”
